Add Line Numbers

Paste text to number its lines — for steps, lists, code snippets or legal documents.

How to use the add line numbers

  1. Paste your text.
  2. Choose the starting number and separator.
  3. Copy the numbered text.

Options

  • Skip empty lines keeps blank lines but doesn’t number them.
  • Pad with zeros lines numbers up neatly: 01, 02 … 10.
  • Start at continues numbering from an earlier list.

Questions

Can I remove line numbers?

Use <a href="/tools/find-and-replace/">find and replace</a> with the regular expression ^\d+\.\s and an empty replacement.

Can it number from 0?

Yes. Set start at to 0.
