How to use the roi calculator
- Enter the amount invested.
- Enter the amount returned, including the original investment.
- Optionally add how many years it took.
The ROI formula
ROI = (returned − invested) ÷ invested × 100. A 1,000 investment that becomes 1,500 has an ROI of 50%.
Why annualize?
A 50% return over one year is far better than 50% over ten. The annualized return spreads the gain across the years as if it compounded evenly, so investments of different lengths can be compared fairly.
